What to expect from a chemical peel
Consultation & preparation
Stop retinoids, exfoliating acids and scrubs five to seven days before your peel, and avoid waxing, sunbeds and self-tan on the area for a week. Helena may ask you to follow a preparatory skincare routine for two weeks beforehand, particularly for pigmentation or deeper skin tones. Arrive with clean skin.
During treatment
Aftercare
Skin may feel tight and look pink for a day or two, with flaking from around day three depending on the peel depth. Do not pick or pull loose skin, keep the area moisturised with the products Helena recommends, and wear SPF 50 every day for at least four weeks. Avoid retinoids and acids until the skin has fully settled.

Will my skin actually peel?
Not always. A superficial peel often causes only mild dryness and a little fine flaking around day three, and some people see no visible peeling at all. A medium-depth peel produces more obvious shedding for three to seven days. Either way, the benefit comes from the renewal happening underneath the surface.
How many chemical peels will I need?
It depends on what you want to change. For a general brightening before an event, one peel is often enough. For pigmentation, congestion or rough texture, Helena usually plans a short course of peels spaced a few weeks apart, then an occasional maintenance peel if you want to keep the glow.
Are chemical peels suitable for darker skin tones?
Superficial peels are used across all skin tones when the acid and depth are chosen carefully. Deeper skin tones carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory darkening if the skin is pushed too hard, so Helena favours gentler acids, shorter contact times and a longer preparation with sunscreen and, where appropriate, a pigment-regulating cream beforehand.
What does a chemical peel feel like?
Most people feel warmth, tingling or a mild sting for a few minutes while the solution is on the skin, then relief once it is neutralised or removed. A fan helps. Medium-depth peels feel hotter and the sensation lasts longer. Helena stays with you throughout and talks you through each stage.
Can I have a chemical peel alongside injectable treatments?
Yes, with sensible spacing. Helena usually leaves at least two weeks between a peel and anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers, and plans peels around skin boosters and polynucleotides so each treatment gets a settled surface to work on. Many clients use a peel to prepare the skin before a course of regenerative injectables begins.
