Excessive Sweating Treatment
Excessive sweating treatment in Marylebone, London: a prescription-only medicine injected into the underarm skin to reduce sweat production for several months, provided by Helena Casales-Arregui, Registered Nurse, after a face-to-face consultation.
The short answer
What is excessive sweating treatment?
Hyperhidrosis is sweating beyond what your body needs to stay cool, and for many people it centres on the underarms: shirts marked by mid-morning, a second top in the bag, hesitation before raising an arm. Treatment involves a series of small injections of a prescription-only medicine into the skin of each underarm. The medicine temporarily blocks the nerve signal that switches the sweat glands on, so the area produces far less sweat. It is provided only after a face-to-face consultation and prescription in line with NMC and MHRA requirements, and individual responses vary.

Patient journey
What to expect from excessive sweating treatment
Consultation & preparation
Shave or trim the underarms 24 to 48 hours before treatment rather than on the day, and do not apply deodorant or antiperspirant on the morning of your appointment. Avoid alcohol, aspirin and ibuprofen for 48 hours beforehand to reduce bruising. Bring a note of any medicines you take and anything your GP has already ruled out.
During treatment
Aftercare
You can return to normal activity straight away. Avoid deodorant, hot baths, saunas and strenuous exercise for 24 hours, and do not rub or massage the area. Sweating reduces over one to two weeks, and Helena reviews you at two weeks. The effect typically lasts four to nine months and varies between individuals.

FAQ
Excessive sweating FAQs
How long does excessive sweating treatment last?
Most people notice a clear reduction in underarm sweating within one to two weeks, and the effect typically lasts four to nine months before it gradually wears off. Duration varies between individuals. Helena reviews you at two weeks to check the response, and repeat treatment can be discussed once the effect has faded, following a fresh clinical assessment.
Should I see my GP before booking?
Yes, if you have not already. Sweating that started suddenly, affects the whole body, happens at night or comes with weight loss or other symptoms can have an underlying cause such as a thyroid condition, a medication or the menopause. Your GP can rule those out and may suggest a clinical-strength antiperspirant first.
Does the treatment hurt?
It involves a number of small injections across each underarm using a fine needle, and most people describe a series of quick pinpricks rather than pain. Numbing cream or a cooling pack can be used beforehand. Discomfort varies between individuals, and the whole treatment takes around 20 to 30 minutes. You can return to your day straight afterwards.
Is it safe to stop sweating under my arms?
Yes. The underarms account for only a small share of the body's sweat glands, so reducing sweat there does not affect your ability to regulate temperature. Sweating elsewhere continues as normal for most people. Side effects are usually limited to small bruises or temporary tenderness at the injection points, and Helena discusses the risks with you at consultation.
Can I have the treatment on the same day as my consultation?
Not usually. Because this is a prescription-only medicine, UK rules require a face-to-face consultation and a prescription before it can be provided, and Helena will also want to check that underlying causes have been considered. Most people have their £50 consultation first and return for treatment on a separate day, with a review two weeks after that.
